Carra not recognised as Europe's best defender
Despite monumental performances against Juventus, Chelsea and AC Milan in last year's Champions League win Jamie Carragher was only named in the top three European defenders. John Terry won the award. I personally find it staggering that after his efforts last season Carra did not receive the accolade he deserved for some legendary defensive displays.
Please let me know your opinions.

You are seriously trying to argue that Carragher deserved the award ahead of Terry? You should feel fortunate that Gerrard, who was not even nominated as one of the top 3 midfielders, won the MVP award. But you wouldn't be a Scouser if you didn't have something to whinge about.

Carragher did get some sort of accolade, he was nominated for the award in the first place. It's hardly a huge injustice that he lost out with John Terry and Paolo Maldini amongst the other nominees.
Carragher has not got any skill what so ever, he is a lucky boy to play for a club like liverpool!!!
Jamie Carragher had a great Champions League, but Terry was head and shoulders above in all games. Not just against the big boys! Terry was the best full stop,
no argument. Hence the accolade by UEFA

Anyone who saw Denmark v England would understand. First half with Terry - no goals conceded, second half with Carragher - England's worst pasting in 25 years.

Surely it's obvious why? It's because he isn't, simple as that. He's an average Premiership defender who has the occasional good game. Consistency is not a word in Carragher's vocabulary.

You have to be an absolute idiot to think Carra is a better defender than Terry. PFA player of the year VS a hot one day, not the next defender.
terry is by far a better defender and when you look at HIS performances against Barcelona, Bayern Munich etc you will see why he was defender of the CL. I seem to remeber him scoring a few more goals than Carra
Carragher is quality as is Terry tuff shout for me. That said to accuse him of having aids is pathetic - u sad lndividual, I guess ur akin with the small minded racists within the football community - shame!
The award was for Champions League performances last season. On that basis I think Carra deserved the award. Even Maldini looked shocked when they said Terry won the award.

What like the Premier League (or old 1st Div)...which you haven't won in the last what 20 odd years and are not liekly to win in the near future.
Carragher looks good because he throws himself in front of people and makes last ditch challenges. JT is good because he stops it getting to that. He can pass the ball...Carragher cant, JT is a natural leader..Carragher is not...Carragher is a good player...but not in JT's class...
Considering that it was said that it was Liverpool's defence that got them to the final it seems odd to give the defender award to one of the also-rans.
After all, a Carragher-inspired Liverpool defence conceded only 6 goals in 12 games in reaching the final of Europe's premier competition (Chelsea conceded 15).
Maybe Uefa felt that Terry's performances helped Chelsea stay in the competition as long as they did...
Sad if you think Carragher is any good. Still - at least you can get some fantastic betting odds on Liverpool winning anything this year.
