Carra has not ruled title bid out
Jamie Carragher has told liverpoolfc.tv that his comments at the weekend were misquoted and there is no way we would give up on winning the title with only a few games gone:
"We are Liverpool Football Club, the most successful side in the country in terms of winning the league and that's always our aim at the start of the season. "I spoke to a couple of journalists who I didn't know in London after the game at Spurs and they stitched me up. Maybe that's a lesson learned from my point of view and I should talk only to club media and the local press from now on because I know them well. "They put it to me that the result at Tottenham was disappointing if we wanted to win the title and I replied saying it was a good result considering a lot of our players had been away on international duty. Then they compared it to Chelsea winning there after an international break and I said that was different because of Chelsea's financial muscle. "I did say it would be difficult for us to win the league this season but not impossible. I said the same thing about the Champions League last season. "No-one here is throwing the towel in or giving the title away to Chelsea, Manchester United or Arsenal. It would be a strange time to throw the towel in when we play these teams over the next few weeks. These are going to be games which will define where we're going to go in the league this season. "We are the European Champions. We haven't won the league in a long time and so if you win the European Cup the next aim has to be winning your domestic league. That's what we'll try to do this season."
I thought the headlines were strange at the weekend and am glad Carra has set the record straight.

i think we need one more summer.raf will get the missing players we need and then chelsea look out
Carragher is just being realistic. it is going to be a tough season. Thing is i honestly reckon we have a first eleven that compares favourably to that of utd, arsenal and chelsea. Our squad is not as strong however.
Our strongest 11:
reina
Finnan
Warnock or riise
Carragher
Hyppia
Alonso
Gerrard
Sissoko
Kewell (when on form)
Cisse
Crouch/Mori
That is as strong if not stronger than united and arsenal, our centre mid is one of the strongest in europe, its just cover to our defence that is the main concern and some more width would be nice. I think carragher knows this and whilst he hasnt thrown in the towel he must know benitez needsto/will strengthen in 3 months time.
We have unbelievable riches in the centre of midfield. It's funny how our strongest XI's don't normally include Garcia even though he is one of our most gifted players. I think Rafa doesn't have a 1st XI and doesn't care as he uses the squad system and will pick a team based on the circumstances.
Kris , Your strongest XI has no balance three central midfielders two strikers one winger, I agree with your defense and midfield but if we are going to play with three CM we can only have one out and out striker,
Let’s just hope Cara or Sami stay fit or we wont be challenging for anything!!
Anon:
I was thinking:
----reina----
fianan carragher hyppia W or R
sissoko Alonso
cisse gerrard kewell
C or M
Kind of like chelsea do with a combination of robben, gudjonsen, swp duff and lampard.
Tthen there is zenden and garcia to come in as cover
Ahh I c Kris , Dont think Cisse will be to happy on the right , I was at the sunderland game 1) he didnt look happy 2)He was sh$%e Julia Arca didnt give him a sniff
with wolves is a fraud, he supports wolverhampton wanderers and has never been to anfield in his life!!
Please use some common sense. There is no way I would devote so much time to looking after this site if I didn't love Liverpool.
Stop slaging off withwolves, can we get back to talking about LFC.
Yeah, get real, nobody supports wolverhampton wanders. Do They?
