Crespo unable to banish final memories

Hernan Crespo is unable put the Champions league final behind him. Crespo would have been the hero having scored two goals for Milan but for our miraculous recovery:

"I want to forget the final against Liverpool! But it's impossible," said Crespo. "I have tried so much to wipe it out of my memory but nothing works. "It still makes me crazy. I scored two goals in the final of the Champions League - but it was not enough. "Every time I see the TV now, I see Steven Gerrard with the trophy, I'm still angry. It's like a knife. "Afterwards, I could not sleep well because there were always moments from the game playing in my head again and again.'' "My wife kept telling me to forget it but when you score two goals in such a game and the team is leading by three, you have a right to think you will lift the trophy," added Crespo. "I think the only way to forget that final is to win it this season with Chelsea. "I am here to win - to win all of the prizes. "With respect to Liverpool, it must have been destiny. They passed through the semi-final without scoring - because it was not a goal against Chelsea - and with Milan in the final it was just a case of six crazy minutes. "If you play like that for six minutes in training you never get three goals."

I'm sure our supporters will be doing their best to remind Crespo about our victory last season.

As an avid LFC supporter, I believe still that this will be a great season for us, and I believe that one or two good results may give the team some great confidence to get on a winning streak. My only concern at the moment is that we do not play with attacking flair. Last season, we had mixed results, but even in some of the games we lost we played with an attacking mindset.

We played so defensively against Milan for the whole first half, and then so attacking in the second, and when we scored against Birmingham on Saturday, it was because we finally attacked with venom, then sat back again and conceded two. We have the team to be solid in defense, but powerfully merciless in attack, and I would hope that we start to show it. The problem we have had is that our attack minded players like Garcia are trying to be defensive, therefore overly skillful, and he gets in trouble and loses the ball. We need to attack Chelsea tomorrow and score in the first 20 minutes, then go for more, because when you score first against Chelsea and defend, they will break us down.

I hope we give Crespo another bad nights sleep rather than wait to see how many he scores against us.

Hear Hear. Generally, we are showing mediocre teams far too much respect - and that gives them the confidence to come at us. YOu could tell Blackburn really thought they could win.

It baffles me that although we have shown against teams like Juve that if we go for all-out attack there is no team that can live with us, we still try and sit on a one-goal lead when playing demonstrably inferior mid-table Premiership opposition.

This tactic was tried many times by Ged, and he almost always ended up with egg on his face. Ditto Eriksson. Managers are too cautious - they seem to think that players will get tired late on and concede a goal. In my opinion, this is a risk worth taking - players are fitter than ever, and its the same for both sides - in fact, the team without possession will always do more running.

If you have really gone at the other team from the start, you could find yourself 2 or 3 goals up in half an hour, especially if you are playing at home. You can then sit back (if you want to) and let the other team knacker themselves trying to get back into the game. If your players get tired in the latter stages and let one in, it doesn't really matter because you are already have the 2-goal cushion.

I would much rather take that sort of risk than sit on one goal scored in the second half and hope that the defence can withstand the pressure from a team coming at you looking for an equaliser or better.

Good post timbo, I was delighted the way we responded against Birmingham when we were a goal down. We showed we could attack in style and it left me wondering why we didn't start the game in that manner. If we play at a very high tempo and the players get tired we can always use Alonso to slow the game down.
