Crouch ready to step in for England

After impressing in front of Sven on Tuesday, Peter Crouch has hinted that he is man for the job in Rooney's absence:
"There's a void to be filled against Austria and I did reasonably well out in America.
"If you're playing well at a club like Liverpool you'll get a chance.
"The manager seemed to be positive about me in America but obviously club form is the key.
"You don't get international recognition without doing the job at club level.
"So if I do make it into the England set-up, I'll have done the business for Liverpool first."
Crouch added: "I'd like to think I'd be the player that comes through over the next season.
"I feel a lot more confident now, going into every game.
"With the England thing and moving to Liverpool, there are obviously a lot of top-class managers who rate me quite highly.
"There was a time when I never thought I'd be at a stage like this, but I've come on a lot since then.
"I scored 16 goals in 24 starts last season and I'm just looking to take that on now.
"Of course the World Cup is the main aim. I think the manager has said he wants a bigger man up front and Mr Eriksson was complimentary while I was away with England. So if all goes well . . . "
I think Crouch will make it into the world cup squad as he is a completely different and dangerous option.
