Performance shows signs of improvement

There were a number of people who were disappointed by the 0-0 draw yesterday. As Liverpool supporters we should be pleased with the performance and the result. We had lost the previous three games at Anfield against Man U. Throughout the whole game there was not one spell when it could be said that Man U were on top. Their three dangerous attackers were almost completely nullified apart from one difficuly chipped effort from Van Nistelrooy.

Although we only created half chances at best the attacking side of our game will certainly improve once our new signings adapt to our style of play. Yet again Peter Crouch looked like a very useful acquisition showing some lovely touches whilst holding the ball up well. Problematically though the rest of the team seemed too deep to link up with him. Again though this is something that will come with time.

Defensively we are now beginning to look as solid as Valencia used to under Rafa. I remember a few of our players saying that Rafa's old team were the hardest they had faced. I am sure no team relishes playing us now as Rafa is instilling the same type of defensive organisation that has provided him with lots of success in his managerial career.

I think Rafa is close to finding the ideal balance between defence and attack in our play. Once this happens we will be able to call us ourselves realistic title challengers.
Please feel free to post your views on the game yesterday.

as you say the goals will come, on another day, the 20 yarder from gerrard, his header and garcia's header which bounced inches wide, would have nestled in the back of the net. i think we were surprised at just how much united sat back, we should have gone for it from the off, instead we anticipated a united backlash from their disappointing draw with city the previous week.
well, we are still unbeaten, yet to concede and 1 point better off than the corresponding fixture last season. at no point yesterday, apart from that chip, did i think, we are gonna lose here.

Solid performance alright but stating we are beginning to look as good as Valencia were under Rafa is a bit premature. Wait and see.

Clean sheets in all of our Premiership games this season is an excellent achievement. I really believe our defence is starting to look as solid as valencia, but the attacking has to improve significantly.

to play this formation effectively we need someone playing closer to crouch. GArcia had a very off day and gerrard sat for too deep in the first 45. we maybe should have started with hamman or sissoko allowing gerrard more licence to get forward. Come JAnuary i can see us signing 3 players: an attacking CM, a RM and a CB.
May i suggest (realistically) Aimar, King and Gera.

We will improve its just a matter of time really,i think its good that our defence has improved if u think back to last season when it looked shaky when defending against any sort of set piece and most of the time looked like we might concede to now where it looks like it will take alot to break us down and score.
Our midfield is prob one of the best in the league even without a right winger,in gerrard we have the best midfielder in the country and amoung the top 3 in the world, then alonso who is by far the best passer of the ball without a doubt in the premiership, put them with any other of our midfielders and its solid, its just the fowards that may need to pull their socks up,in my opinion i think we need to play 2 upfront with cisse and crouch!

then we would start scoring some goals!!!

Yesterday we had two choices when Pongolle came off....Sissoko was that one we went for which guaranteed us the point, we remain unbeaten and didnt concede. The other option, and the one I think that Rafa will take against lesser sides would have been to put Cisse on through the middle to nick the win and get the goals. I think he got it right on balance.....the only thing that I would have done differently would have been to take off Garcia instead of Pongolle, who is really showing his potential as the answer to our right wing problem.

I think if we look at corresponding fixtures at this point last season we have improved. Draw at tottenham, except we didnt concede...Beat the team that got promoted at home, instead of draw like with palace...draw against Utd when we have lost the last few. Heading in the right direction.
