Simao transfer looking more likely

After the collapse of the Simao transfer in August, due to the late demands for a higher transfer fee to appease the Benfica supporters, it has been reported that the Portuguese club will now allow Simao to leave for the original price of £ 10 million. However they are unlikely sell their star man if they get through the Champions League group stage.
As Rafa has denied any interest in Joaquin it looks like Simao will be the number one target in January. Rick Parry has also made some positive comments on the situation saying, "It is an interesting option for us. We need a player with his characteristics."

Great! A player who tried with a big team (Barcelona) and failed. Went to a poor footballing laegue where he did well and now he wants to try his luck in the big league again.

Why on earth waste the money on a player who couldn't do it in the big league before when Joaquin has proved it on the international stage and in the big league. Put the money towards that transfer.

could it be that the "not interested in joaquin" is designed to divert the attention from a possible transfer? let's hope so!

WE DIDNT BUY SIMAO IN SUMMER DUE TO TRANSFER FEE WHAT MAKES THEM THINK THEY CAN GET HIM FOR ANY LESS NOW HE'S SCORED A GREAT FREE KICK AGAINST MAN U AND EVEN IF WE DO BUY HIM HE WONT BE ABLE TO PLAY IN CHAMPS LEAGUE?? - GOOD BUISNESS, I DONT THINK SO!

Well I think you've answered your own stupid question. He'd be cheaper because he'd be cup-tied! Benitez is not building a team for this season only, and the Premier League and progress in the domestic competition takes first priority. We're crying out for a wide right player and Simao is the best that we can afford at present. Well worth the investment.

It's not a big problem if he is cup-tied & won't be able to play in the Champs League. If he comes then he'll be available for domestic matches. We tend to struggle more in the Premiership than in the Champs League anyway (so far).

I know he failed in the La Liga but that doesn't mean he'll fail in the Premiership. The same can be said of Joaquin. Even if he's performing well in the La Liga & international matches that doesn't guarantee he'll perform well in the Premiership.

If Rafa wants to buy Simao then it's Simao. If he wants Joaquin then let it be Joaquin. Whether it's gonna be good business or not only time will tell.

i honestly think the signing of either joaquin or simao depends on one person:

Mark Gonzalez.

If we get him in january, we will try to persue simao. if we dont, we will try get joaquin.

yeah sure he tried for barcelona - and failed... But so did Luis Garcia...! And Morientes didn't do too well at Real Madrid the last year or so either - but we all have high hopes anyway! Just cause he didnt do well dosen't meen he's not going to

Weren't Chelsea interested in Jaoquin at some point? Probably only lost interest after they bought Wright-Phillips, so he may be a good purchase? Anyway, why not just get greedy and get both along with Gonzalez... can always loan one out if they don't excel??

Simao = £10 mil
Joaquin = £25mil (maybe more!)

If it was simple question of who's best it'd be easy wouldn't it. Get both! ROFL, if you want to donate about £15mil to the club that would be nice, but i'd quite like another center back to go with the right winger if we have that much cash to splash about the place!

Both Simao and Joaquin are a waste of a lot of money, again. Piennar is available at Ajax, in the last year of his contract and would jump at the chance at Liverpool. Joaquin disapears in games and is not suited to the Prem, Simao is just not good enough but Piennar has done well in a League similar to the Premiership and would cost a fraction of the others. That would then leave money available for Andrade or Gallas and a goalscorer when Benitez loans Cisse out. A top quality left back would be helpful as well.

Well I'm portuguese and I'm a Benfica fan so I can help in this litle argument.

You all say that Benfica rejected the transfer because of the fee... that is not true. The only reason why Simão is still in Portugal os because Liverpool made the offer in the last day of the internacional transfer window...
You have to understand this, we would lose our best player and then what? Than we needed to wait until January to buy someone to is place... That was an impossible deal for our club.

Now in January, even if we're still in champions league Simão will be sold for that sum or even less...
Until then you can see him scoring some great goals in the Champions League

Now for those who say the portuguese championship is poor, I will have to remeber all of you that in the last 3 years, we won a Champions League a EUFA Cup, and we had a runner up in last year UEFA.

agree with you lestat01 !!! rafa & parry are both stupid.. they should try to get the player earlier.. not hours before transfer window closed.. so the other team can at least look for a replacement.. very2 stupiddd

the same issue happened with sissoko, rafa only heard about him being available in the paper, the same was told about simao so rafa went in for him but it was not in the middle of the transfer window it was the lst day, this they need to be more organised, and the liverpool team at the moment for myself is only half there, with out question we need to buy quality players but we also need to look at the formation as well.

also big respect to john peel who was lfc through and through, he will be happy sat along side shanks up there in football heaven.

peace
