Nando ready for World Cup qualification

Although Spain take a 5-1 lead away to Slovakia for the 2nd leg of their World Cup playoff Nando has insisted the job has not been done yet:

"They will have to score four goals to beat us and that hasn't happened against us for a long time. It will be very difficult for that to happen, but it is not impossible. "We have to keep our feet on the ground. We know that it is going to be very difficult but we have to go there with the aim of winning again."

Hopefully Morientes will be given a start tomorrow after his goal at the weekend. There is no doubt that Spain will be going to the World Cup. Due to our large Spanish contingent this will be another welcome boost to our morale.

JERZY DUDEK may be sold to Benfica in January as part of the deal that sees Simao Sabrosa seal his long-awaited move to Anfield.

The Polish goalkeeper confirmed this week that he would be looking elsewhere by the new year should he fail to loosen Jose Reina's grip on the Liverpool gloves.

And now his agent, Jan de Zeeuw, has conceded that such a decision may have to be made as early as next week when a meeting between himself, manager Rafael Benitez and Dudek is scheduled.

"It's true that Liverpool have never said that they no longer needed him," de Zeeuw said. "Next week we will have a meeting with the the coach and with the club executives to consider Dudek's future."

The 32-year-old is under contract with Liverpool until June 2007 but he is concerned his hopes of playing in the World Cup next summer will suffer unless he plays regularly for the first team.

De Zeeuw added: "There are two situations. There is the Spanish tendency, seeing as the coach is Spanish and Reina is also Spanish and then there is the English one, that prefers Dudek.

"If Liverpool doesn't want him then all the doors will open. But at this time everything is in Liverpool's hands."

De Zeeuw also confirmed that Benfica - managed by Dudek's former team-mate Ronald Koeman - would be an attractive destination for the Istanbul hero should he decide to leave Anfield.

That would throw open the possibility of Dudek acting as a make-weight in any deal to bring Sab-rosa to Merseyside in January.

The agent said: "Benfica would in fact be an interesting option. Dudek already played with Ronald Koeman in Feyenoord in 1996."

Sabrosa, who narrowly missed out on a £10million move to Anfield in August, is still thought to have his heart set on a switch to the European champions and Benitez is still intent on ending his long hunt for a right-winger.

And his chances of a move away from the Portuguese side have certainly improved, with Sabrosa having been fined by the club for claiming in a television interview that he wanting to move to a more competitive league.

Club president Luis Filipe Vieira did however recently say: "Some day, Benfica will have to say farewell to Simao. We have a gentleman's agreement."
