Is Joaquin on his way to the Reds?

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Liverpool assistant manager Paco Herrera, has invited Real Betis winger Joaquin's agent Gonzalo Arguiñano to the Liverpool vs Chelsea game tomorrow night. This is a very interesting development as Joaquin would be a dream signing to play on our right. It is believed he would cost around £ 18 million. The paper goes on to say that we would need to raise funds to sign him by selling Cisse.

It is a difficult call to make but if Cisse's departure would mean the arrival of Joaquin then so be it. Although with our recent success and a few recent sales of players we should have the money to spend without having to sell.
I don't think former suitors Chelsea would rival us for the signing as they have recently spent £ 20 million plus on Wright-Phillips.

I agree, from what i've seen he'd make a great addition to the team, but.........
Why do we need to sell Cisse? I know we have to trust in Rafa's decisions but this is one I just do not understand

I really dont think that we will have to sell any of our exellent players such as Cisse.

With Real giving us the 4 million they owe us from the owen deal plus the money that has been promised along with the champs league cash i think it wouldnt be a problem for us to buy Joaquin as he would be a bargin even at 17 million!as he would be a very good investment for us!

and your right about chelsea as they bought wright-phillips at a very inflated price!

clivethered said 'of course joachim is a good player,he is a good solution with kewell'. From what I've seen we would need 2 wingers to offer a solution to Kewell as he's crap. As for how much Chelsea payed for Wright-Phillips, it's irelevant really as, if joachim became available they could bid for him.

I agree with the majority of you guys. Keep Cisse. Buy Joaquin. The only snag is can we rival a monster chelsea bid and offer him the wages they can??????

My concerns are why haven't we got the money to buy joaquim instead of having to sell first. Rafa's been promised 15mill in January, is this the same money that we would have used to purchase a defender and simao? I hope not, I would like to see two genuine world class players arrive. But selling our potentially best strikers isn't the best solution to our goal drought. Out of Crouch, Mori, Cisse etc who would get 20 plus goals a season. Not crouch or mori, only Cisse if we play to some of his strengths he would. I'd be disappointed if its the same money as he had in pre-season.

Joaquin will never go to Liverpool, please stop dreaming. If he goes anywhere it will be Madrid, and if not Madrid then there will be many better suitors. Liverpool do not have a realistic shot of signing Joaquin.

I feel we souldnt blow out entire budget on one player..We still need to get i na decent DC to back up hypia and carragher.Unless we have the cash and need not sell..i am for it.

Most prob we will get Simao..oh and T ,why wun Joaquin want to come to the European champs?Pls be more constructive and stop slagging us off coz the club u support cant make it:)

so rather than playing for the european champions. he would choose real madrid (a fantasy team) or chelski? so we dont have a realistic chance of buying someone who's agent will be at one of the greatest footballing arena's in the world?

when betis comes to anfield, he will know that he needs to sign for us.

i think buy january, liverpool will have around £20million to spend. cisse will not need to be sold. the baros sale took too long to go through.

but we still need a centre back.

Not a chance. Joaquin is too good a player to even think of going to a small team in Europe.
He will go to one of Madrid, Barca, Juve or Chelsea ..sorry guys..nt even the best team in Liverpool. !!

I think Joaquin is one of the few players who is good enough to use our whole budget on.

JOaquin = £18m
Mexes = £7m

Rafa's Transfer Budget = £25m

Problem sorted

i agree i don't see why we should sell cisse, at the moment he is being played oyu of postion wide right, by buying a top quality winger that would mean we could stop wasting his talents out wide.
plus i think ther is a chance that we could get mexes on a loan deal until summer, thus meaning rafa is free to spend all his money on one player
