Owen has talks with Magpies

Michael Owen this afternoon was in the North East for talks with Newcastle. Real Madrid have accepted a bid of around £ 17 million for Owen. Although Owen has stated he will only go to Newcastle on loan if he can't go back to Liverpool. This situation is complex because we would like Owen on loan as we need to spend any transfer funds on a winger and central defender. Real Madrid have already said he will not be allowed to leave on loan, so you may ask what is the point of Owen speaking to Newcastle? I think if Owen rejects a permanent move to Newcastle we will be able to negotiate a lower price with Real, although I'm still not convinced whether Rafa wants him.
It is going to be a very interesting few days. Please post your comments.

Well Liverpool have as many strikers as Real. So, the question is if Owen would get the time he feels that he needs. Newcastle have the position for him, guaranteeing a first start position, and have the strength to get him the salary that he desires. And the amount of time he spent up here in the north shows, that there are genuin interest from both directions. So my Vote is a Magpie hero........

Toon fan here, would love him to come, but his fawning to the scousers is a little trying, I think we are flogging a dead horse, he will go back to liverpool.

He is only being polite talking to Newcastle. He was taught manners at Liverpool and will return to complete his education.

Stop trying to convince yourselves, barcodes, it won't happen for you.

Champions League, we're having a laugh!!

Unfortunately its the sad truth that no-one goes to Newcastle at the moment apart from for the money.
Especially with Souness in charge.

Luque, Emre, Parker - offers from other clubs in Champs League - only went for the money that Newcastle were offering.

Owen doesn't think like that.
He will not go to the toon.
Liverpool or nowhere.
We're a quality club, so are you, with good management - you won't finish 14th again.

Forget about Michael Owen, Newcastle

Owen is not going to play in a Team who is going to play in the Championship next year. He prefers to sit on the bench @ Madrid. January RM will be forced to sell Owen back to Liverpool. If does not do that he is losing 5 millions on Wage evry year + a players not playing his Marketing rate is decreasing.

Its a toss up really. Newcastle can guarantee him a lot of games, but Liverpool can guarantee him almost as many with European competition. Newcastle have offered him a lot of money, but his heart is in Liverpool. Ultimately I think he'll join Liverpool but by no means is it a sure thing.

Why would Real let him go to a club offering £8-10m, when another club has offered £17-18m?

"Owen is not going to play in a Team who is going to play in the Championship next year."

Spoken like a true Scouser, i.e. totally retarded. What a stupid comment.

On topic, I think if Liverpool make an offer for Owen he'll go there, but its nearly Tuesday, with Wednesday clearly in sight and nothing has been put forward by Liverpool. I'm still not sure he'd go to Newcastle, or whether the Toon should want him if he doesn't really want to play for them, but with the Kujt prospect not looking good, Newcastle need a forward and Owen would be a great signing.

Guess it'll all fall into place in the next 48 hours.

Owen was reported to have spent quite some time at Newcastle today but it wasn't for talks. He asked to see their trophy room and no-one could remember where it was.

owen is 'playing the game' and talking to newcastle.

once he's turned them down, liverpool can turn to corny madrid and say 'whats it to be then? pay owen 80 grand a week to do nothing and watch his value plummet? or let us take him on our terms? you have 36 hours to decide...'

i mean, come on, - do any of you geordies really believe youre going to sign owen?

fat freddie must be laughing his fat arse off. keep you lot in fantasy land about who you're going to sign - without spending a penny.

when was the last time newcastle signed anyone in the world class bracket?

exactly.

why would they start now?

you are a sub-birmingham-type club.

get over it.
