Owen agrees 4 year deal with Magpies
Michael Owen has agreed to a permanent move to Newcastle. After talks yesterday he agreed terms and is now having a medical. This is yet another transfer blow for us after missing out on Figo and having the permit problem with Mark Gonzalez. I think Owen has put his England prospects ahead of club glory and our refusal to match Madrid's price has also contributed. Please post your comments on this surprise transfer.

I don't think you were ever really in with a shot at owen given Benitez let him go last year. I mean realisticlly the low offer you put in for him must have added to speculation that Benitez didn't really want him. Newcastle pulled out all the stops with a huge bid, even Shearer pestered the boy, end result Newcastle get there man.
We got farked on by Real the money hungry bastards
Was it really a surprise that he hasn't gone to Liverpool. Owen is Liverpool through and through but he is no ones fool.
Reading between the lines he wasn't wanted at Anfield by the manager. Yes, the fans wanted him as did the likes of Parry but it is the manager who picks the team.
Fantastic news, but then again, i'm a Geordie!
Im a Liverpool fan and if im bieng completely honest I would say Newcastle are the bigger and more ambitious club......oh forgot one thing and they are the better club
I think micheal has made the right choice going to Newcastle because our style of play sucks
Flabby mcfatfat
who cares, hes a toad, cisse is much better anyway at least he follows in after shots and doesnt fall over the ball all the time!
Benitez needed owen but now we have him UNLUCKY no not really your manager is just a bit hard up we landed our man OWEN,OWEN,OWEN,OWEN,OWEN,OWEN,OWEN,OWEN,OWEN,OWEN,OWEN,OWEN
Pleased hes gone to newcastle, just shows what a joke his career has turned into!
how did benitez NEED owen? hes openly denied it and said he didnt want him! well done on spending well over £7 million more than he was worth!
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
Who ever it was who just said Cisse is better is probably a very upset man who subconciously knows Owen is better but cannot handle the truth HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
no i am a liverpool fan who watched michael owen all his career and know more about him that you do you stupid tw@ im not upset at all! i would have been upset had we signed owen and sold cisse to make room for him!
No Scum oh sorry I mean Liverpool do need him lets run through the list
no 1 crouch well nothing needs to be said about him
no2 cisse what a record about 1 goal every 4 games the only way he gets in the paper is by changing his hair cut.
thats why cisse has scored 5 goals out of 6 games already this season then is it?!, he was also out all last year and came back and scored 2 goals towards the back end of the season. get your facts straight! nowt wrong with peter crouch either while we are on the subject, hes just an ugly b*stard!.
no need to be rude ok which one of the two are IS AN INTERNATIONAL PLAYER do you want to know I can tell you IT'S NOT CISSE now whos the TW@T
both are actually! cisse is capped by france so you are still infact a tw@
Alright he has scored 5 in the last six but owen scored 16 in about 11 games for madrid he is an ugly b**tard isnt he
no but who acctually plays not sits on the reserves bench
he had his time. wish the little fella all the best...lets concentrate on getting the players who actually want to play for liverpool. BET: lets see what he wins over four years.
Come on guys, be a grown up and wish the guy all the best. frankly speaking, he aint the striker that i, as a Geordie, wanted. We dun need players to choose us only because he got no other options. Although u can see Cisse has better skills, skills dun get u goals, instinct does. And calling others twats or whatever gets u nowhere.
owen sat on the bench all last year for real! what are you going on about! - Cisse is in the starting 11 for France - again i will repeat he didnt play for them last year AS HE WAS INJURED, you try kicking a ball with the bottom part of your leg hanging off!!! - he was recalled into the france squad recently! again get your fact straight!
i agree on the honours he will win over 4 years, nothing im guessing. Benitez made it clear he didnt want him, he went stale at anfield, he would have gone stale again. European Champions go marching on!
i am happy ..that owen did not come to anfield...i think that real was making a real fool out of us..they bought him from us for 8 million and want to sell to us for 14 million.....i think that if we bought him it will be disgrace to us...and the way he left liverpool was also bad....cheers and newcastle good luck after 3 years then we will want to move again and you would not even get 8 million..ha ha ha...if u think owen will be top scorer...he he he think again we have our cisse....
i think castle really needs him....they still have to score their first goal in premiership...ha ha ha
Delighted Owen isn't coming to Anfield.
I don't want any player who would prefer to be playing for another team (Real) let alone one who would rather be playing for two other teams (Real & LFC). Good luck NUFC you can keep him.
He doesn't fit in with our style of play, he's not the player he was, he's not adaptable, he's not going to improve and he lacks loyalty.
Excellent decision Rafa... leave MO well alone.
This reminds me of two things:
(1) Brian Robson at Boro signing Ravanelli for 96/7. Ravanelli ended up as Premiership top scorer but Boro were relegated anyway.
(2) Leeds United: spending silly money and ending up broke and relegated.
Rafa warrants our trust at the moment and Cisse deserves respect and the opportunity to show how good he is. I'm sure he will.
good point, i only hope it happens!
I think wart Newcastle needs is the goals widening to about double whhat they are now, then maybe they will score a goal this term!
Ha ha, having Owen would be like having genital warts - uncomfortable and annoying!
Let's face it, we all know Owen is top class and I am annoyed we didn't get him. Best of luck at Newcastle Michael.
The key point for me is that Rafa has made the right stance. The fact is we do need a centre half and a right winger a lot more than a striker. Souness will fall out with half the team and they'll end up with nothing again.
Have faith in Rafa, he brings trophies.........
Can't believe theyve paid double the price real did. Theyve been ripped off. Hes not worth that price
Lets just wish Mickey all the best at the Barcodes!
Benitez needs to be trusted wholeheartedly on his tough stance. He knows exactly what the team needs - cover for central defence and a right winger (bring in Solano!). Our strikers will come good I'm sure.... Cisse has been injured most of his time at the Pool - he is coming good right now, Morientes will improve and Crouch is going to be a Liverpool legend.

why are we jealous of a team in turmoil languishing in the bottom 3 with no goals and no wins to speak of who have just paid well over the market value for a striker, ooh hold on i will just turn my head, there is the champions league trophy and the super cup - all won without the help of the poisoned dwarf! yes owen would have been an ok buy for £8 million but for £16million or whatever you paid you have to be having a laugh, go and play with the other primadonnas in your team who arent worth the price of putting the name on the back of the football shirt!
ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC!
Liverpool are by far the most successful English team in history.
I do not need to list the HUGE list of honours do I?!
We have just won (and indeed now own) the European Cup for the fifth time.
Remind me please of what exactly Newcastle have won?
Benitez is already a legendary manager and knows EXACTLY what is best for the team.
Pathetic scousers? Hmmm....WHATEVER!! The whole of England is jealous of our amazing history and are running scared of our inevitable glorious future.
I hope Mickey has a brilliant career @ the Barcodes - for Englands sake.

I didn't say anything about you being jealous of Newcastle or where they stand in the table or current form at all. Just the fact that yesterday, all Liverpool fans wanted Owen and were confident of getting him, slating Newcastle and saying there was no way they could possibly sign him. That Owen was just being 'polite' going for talks at Newcastle etc.
I do not argue the fact that Newcastle have a lot of problems and that Liverpool have done excellent winning their recent cups. That was not at all what my post was about. I'm not sure what part of my post you have got that from. Maybe you just can't read properly? :)
Lets hope Owen won't lose Souness his job like Houllier did. 17million pounds is way too much I must say...if u notice Newcastle have been looking upon Ex-Liverpool stars to bring them success. From Keegan,Dalglish,Beardsley,McDermott,Saunders,Souness and Owen..I must say they really know where to look to find success. And being a PLC they got the $$$. But they don't have players with the passion!! Gerrard couldn't leave because of passion for the club and is rewarded and became a legend! Owen loss his passion in search of success and now seek to be a 1st team player to save his international career. Real sad for Owen as his chances of getting his hands on a Champions League medal is fading......that's unless..........his good mates Steve G or Jamie Carr would loan theirs..ha ha
Mr 6:00pm anonymous - not all liverpool fans would have welcomed the signing of michael owen, and that therefore means we would not be jealous of newcastle signing him. he served us well in his time at anfield, he fell out of love for the club and the fans fell out of love with him. If he has gone to newcastle to play football and his heart is set on staying there for 4 years then he will do well for you, IF however you are merely a stop gap for him and a way for him to go to the world cup which i think he seesNewcastle as (hence the reported clauses in his contract) then he will leave after a year as he first planned, the only difference is that you will have paid £16 million for him and at least £100K a week to him for the pleasure!
How can £16mil be too much for someone like Owen, when you guys have wasted £7mil on Crouch. What hypocrites.
