Simao passes Liverpool medical
Simao's agent Jorge Baidek has confirmed that he has passed his medical. He went on to say that he is hopeful a deal can be concluded in the next few hours. However there have been conflicting reports about Benfica trying to prevent the deal by asking for Cisse in part exchange.
All we can do now is wait, see and hope.

what makes them think cisse will want to go there, and why do we always seem to be selling him, hes the only decent striker we have!
Exactly!
Don't know much about Simao, but he sounds a decent player, lets hope we get him in. No way can Cisse go! Not looking good for a defender now though.
What hapend to us bidding for Bonera? we desperately need cover at centre back. We MUST keep cisse hes r only quality striker with pace now.
Liverpool offered £7M which was turned down. So we had to buy out the players contract for £10M, which is what we did with Luis Garcia last year when Barca didnt want him to go but we paid the £6M for the release of his contract. This is the same situation. Benfica have no choice as he has alraedy passed his medical but they are trying to delay the situation by saying they want Cisse as part exchange in the deal.
Simao is a small player and a light weight. He couldn't fit into the Spanish League because he kept on falling over every time he got touched. In Portugal it is similar to France where the football is not so rough. He will have to adapt to the physical side quickly which he couldn't do in Spain. He does score alot of goals from that position and has got trickery and pace. Just dont think you are going to get a foul every time you get touched. Please don't be a more expensive version of smicer, diomede, or cheyrou.
The defender situation will need to be addressed in January. Hopefully Carra, Sami & Traore can do the job until then.
Who do Benfica think they are? We paid 14m for Cissé a year ago. How can they ask for him in a part exchange?
Agree that Cisse should be starting - he's an impact player even if he does lack a bit of composure in front of goal.
I think the centreback situation is pretty desperate - Hypia has been absolutely awful so far this season, getting found out for pace and positioning in every game I have seen so far - its not cover we need, its a quick. powerful and athletic centre back to play alongside Carra, immediately replacing Hypia, that Liverpool need urgently. By January it may be too late for this season if that position isn't addressed.
By all accounts this boy is a good good player
HE snubbed Man U last year, and is supposed to be a little more direct and stronger than Ronaldo ?
This is all Ive heard, its all second hand
Idea ... can Hamman convert to centre-back. Good tackler, cleans up in front of the back 4 anyway. Might be an option.
Glad that we are getting a right winger at last of decent repute - lets hope he lives up to the big price tag.
As for centre-back again, Josemi actually looked pretty decent at centre back the other night against CSKA Sofia - better than at right-back and he would provide useful cover I think and might be worth trying instead of Hypia with Carra - as for Didi at centre back? The pace issue would still be there and he isn't dominant enough in the air.
Looks like we aren't going to have sorted the centre-back situation properly by the transfer deadline, unfortunately, unless this Bonera deal with Parma suddenly happens.
Appears that this deal has fallen through with Benfica pulling out of negotiations or at least thats what they are saying on the BBC website... is this true?
Yep it's all gone the way of the pear
well, what a successful days trading this has been then! no players in! and the 'all important' right winger and centre back have still to materialise! well done for leaving things far too late as usual LFC another 6 months without cover! my blood is boiling!!!
We are a joke RICK PARRY RESIGN NOW FOR THE GOOD OF THE CLUB I BEG YOU!
According to football365.com, the price Benfica was asking is now £13.6M. From a starting bid of £7M, and at which point they let the player come over for a medical, the price is now £13.6M. They are taking the p*ss, they know we are in a difficult position, and they are trying to take advantage. Tell them where to go. I hope the player tells Benfica where to go for messing him about as well. I trust the club to be doing the best they can. They more than most, don't want to be left short of players.
why exactly are players too expensive? whats happened to the money for winning and re-qualifying for the Champions League!?!? Why was Mr Moores et al going to put their own money in to bring Michael Owen back and why couldnt they use this money to bring in what we have been being told were 'priorities' for the past month!?! not impressed we are european champions and should be able to compete in the transfer market with most clubs on the back of that!!
Well I guess that's that then. Chelsea have wright phillips and Essien, United finally get a decent keeper, Newcastle get Emre,Parker, Luque and Owen and Spurs sign Davids and Jenas.
It seems strange that the European cup winners can only manage to effectivly swap the European championship golden boot winner for Peter 'Aren't I elegant' crouch (oh and we lost out on half a million too..)and Zenden 'the answer to our winger problems' who prefers to play centre mid.
The Owen thing was a farce, it was a bit if a long shot someone coming in with the £14m we would want to recoup from Lord cisse, sorting out that side of things and then signing Owen in the space of 5 days. All it did was upset one of our better players.
Never mind what I think though, just imagine what stevie and Jamie must feel like..
Thank goodness for Momo and Pepe, its just a shame they can't play on the wing (or at centre back) (or upfront for that matter)
Liverpool are sh1te
