New players linked on deadline day
According to The Times we are after Zoltan Gera from West Brom. He was instrumental in helping the Baggies avoid relegation last season. He would be a good attacking option for us on the right and a goalscoring threat.
Reports in Portugal say we are close to a deal for pacy Benfia winger Simao. Apparently he would cost £ 10 million which in my opinion would make this transfer unlikely. The reports even suggest we may offer Cisse in part-exchange.
I am convinced Rafa has something up his sleeve. Whatever happens it is going to be exciting to see what unfolds today and how it will impact on our season.

Gera is a wonderful player, and would be an excellant signing for the Reds........
Short of signing Anelka, Schevchenco, Ronaldo, Henry or Van Nistlerooy it doesn't matter who we sign. We are being linked with wingers and centre backs.
No point in creating when the strikers we have are so poor they couldn't even finish a sentance let alone a goal scoring opportunity. No point in stopping them if you can't score.
In Rafa one man's pride has stood in the way of the club. We have no chance this season with no one to score the goals. Good luck Reds where gonna need it!!!!
Gera would be a nice addition, but Cisssé would be great loss. I don't understand why Benitez wants to get rid of him - he is (by far) the best striker in the squad.
I’m becoming increasingly worried at our lack incompetence to bring in some top quality players, even one would have made me happier and more optimistic about this season, I’m thinking that even the players will be seeing all these other clubs making some good signings and getting worried themselves as our solutions seem to be cheap, old and players that have never set the world alight with their skills.
Agreed that we have seriously strengthened our reserve side with some supposed youth and quality, but this was our chance to capitalise on our status after the champions league win and all we get is Zenden and liked with players like Stelios and Solano.
I just hope that something can be done in the next 12 hrs or so to prove I’m wrong to worry.
Gera stood out as a great player in a poor squad at West Brom. He is skillful and solid, but not good enough for a Top 5 Premiership club.
Baggies fan here, im just praying that these rumours of you taking our best player zoltan gera (AKA 'the magic magyar')are untrue because it would totally ruin our season and we would probably get relegated as we have already been poor this season. Please sign somebody else Liverpool!
hey l'pool fans, you obviously have,nt seen enough action of gera,theres a vid thats been available of his exploits from recent, international and club football in hungary. The guy is amazing and is loved like a god in hungary. saying he is not good enough for a top 5 club is a complete joke. anyway's, i hope ur manager thinks the same as you though as it would be a disaster to lose one of the most skilful players in the world :)
Gera has already proved himself to be Premiership class and would do even better at a top club like Liverpool.

After the excitement of bringing the european cup home had died down a bit I was looking forward to a summer filled with exciting transfers. Finally Liverpool would be able to sign players with the proven quality that we need to challenge for the premiership. On deadline day however this summer has been a huge dissapointment. Instead of 'I really hope we sign this amazing world class player we've been linked with' its been much more like 'I really really hope we don't sign this old/ bean-pole like/relagation dodging player we've been linked with'..
Missing owen is a shame and I'm sure he'll do well, but it would have been an awful bit of buisness to give real a near £10m profit. There are 10 hours left till deadline so come on Rafa, suprise me and do something exciting!
I THINK GERA IS SAFE BECAUSE LETS FACE IT RAFA DOESN'T BUY CLASS PLAYERS.
