Curbishley delighted Gerrard stayed at Liverpool

Alan Curbishley isn't the only one who was happy Gerrard didn't join Chelsea. He says that their riches pose a problem and they are already a fair distance ahead of the other top teams:
"When you get the top team of last year chasing Gerrard, a player from the side that has just won the Champions League, well, that is difficult.
"I think the fact it was resisted or didn't happen was a good thing. It might have been a relief for Liverpool but it was a good thing for everybody else.
"We have not been faced with this situation before, someone being in a position where, within reason, they can go for anyone they want.
"We may all sit here thinking how lucky they are, yet it is up to everybody to respond. "At the moment, the top teams have some catching up to do."
"The problem with Chelsea is that, unless something dramatic happens, their finances are not going to change.
At least we are building a proper squad and don't try and hijack our rivals transfers, apart from Sissoko!
