Lampard expected Gerrard to join Chelsea
Frank Lampard has told Zoo magazine that he was ready to welcome Gerrard to Chelsea in the summer. Thankfully Gerrard saw sense in time and realised his place is at the European Champions:"I've got to be honest, at one stage I did think he was coming to join us. It was very close.
"But I respect what Stevie's done - he was very honest about everything.
"Stevie was probably being torn in many directions by different people saying different things to him. I read that at one stage he just had to sit at home and decide for himself what he wanted to do.
"He decided he wanted to stay, and we have to give him credit for that. He's a friend of mine. I love playing with him for England and I look forward to seeing him do well for Liverpool. But obviously not against us."
It's still amazing to think that for one day we were all expecting Gerrard to leave and the relief and disbelief that we felt when news filtered through that he had changed his mind.

Relief? From what I saw / heard everyone was saying that they'd rather have the money that Chelsea were offering?
I also saw people burning Gerrard shirts outside the ground...
Yeah, 'Relief' from Lampard as he'd have more games in midfield for Chelsea if Gerrard didn't move to Stamford Bridge.
If a player's heart isn't with a team, you bet most people would rather cash in than have an expensive wage bill who wished to leave (and had publicly stated so).

gerrard didn't have the bottle to join chelsea....he should have gone. if they loved him so much, why did they keep him waiting to sign a contract for so long. you could have brought in another shite player from spain to replace him.
