No deadline transfers but plenty of reasons for optimism

Our inability to make the required signings of a right winger and centreback has been difficult to take. As European Champions we have had no problem attracting players but the clubs we are trying to buy the players from have been upping the prices to unacceptable levels. It was documented last season that we required investment to take us to the next level. This has not been forthcoming and it has been hoped that the revenue generated by the Champions League success would compensate. You cannot blame the board for failing to buy players at unrealistic prices.
There is no need to panic though. We have signed a top quality goalkeeper and Sissoko looks to be a star in the making. The squad has been bolstered with Bolo Zenden and Peter Crouch may well be a great success. Cisse has returned from his horrific injury and has already scored lots of goal this season. Stevie Gerrard has opted to stay and has a chance to form a formidable midfield partnership with Xabi Alonso. Harry Kewell has had operations and will hopefully make a full recovery and show the type of form that caused such excitement when we signed him. Rafa has also done his best to secure the Continent's top teenage talent and they may get chances sooner rather than later.
Please post your comments on how you see this season going now we know our final squad.

Im sorry but there is no excuse for the failures of the board. Why leave it to the last day? They are stupid, Parry should quit.

The areas we needed to improve most havent been improved. How can moro and Crouch sore when theres noone who can cross the bloody ball.

I agree but if keweell gets PROPERLY fit again and playing like he did for leeds, and if nando starts performing, which i think we will, then given one or two signings in january, this could be one of our best seasons in the premiership for a few years now.

That's better, let's be positive it's always too easy to look at the negatives.

I beleive most of our minor problems stem from Rick Parry. He may be fully behind LFC, but he doesn't inspire you when you ever hear him. I beleive coz of him we have lost out of millions in not marketing ourselves right, still guilt of that now even after winning champs league. Look at all the stops Newcastle pulled out for Owen, what did we do. Rick Parry please move on, let someone with euthanism for the job have a go. I'd pick John Aldrige!!

I think the concerns over Rick Parry are well placed. He loves liverpool, but continues to demonstrate incompetence.

Owen leaves, says he's not wanted as contract talks not sufficiently high priority - Parry's fault

Gerrard almost leaves, again, says contract talks not sufficiently high priority - Parry's fault

We consistently pay over the odds for all players, smack of poor negotiation skills - Parry

We meet St Michael in a council house and leave him thinking we never wanted him, when it turns out we did - Parry

The whole world knows we need a centre back and right winger, and depite the availability of fernandes for free, solano for 1.5, gionnaocopalous for 1.5, van der meyde for 2.5, we are left at the altar as negotiations flounder - Parry again.

I hate to say it, but I don't think he's up to the job.

People are quick to jump on the bandwagon for me and they seem to forget that we have made the best two signing of the season near the bigining of the pre-season in Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher who in their own right one is the the MVP midfield player in europe and the other on form is currently one of the best diffenders in europe!
I would have liked a couple more signings but hey Rafa went through a season with valencia with out making a single signing and still made them champs!!!
Come on people chin up!!! Rafa is the chosen one not Mr Jose...

What's gonna happen if Carra gets injured? Josime and Sami?.... It could be another season of Gerrard to the rescue. I'm sick of us being touted as a one man team but at the minute who else is there to look to for insperation?

I think Traore now he has more confidence can cover at centreback as long as he hack it out when in doubt.

I agree, there's no need for panic. The signing of Pepe Reina was the most important as far as I'm concerned and Sissoko looks like a real prospect. The board were right on the Owen transfer. How could we pay double for a player we sold 1 year ago.Owen sholud have stayed put in Madrid and waited for us to come back for him when the transfer window opens up in January.Madrid would have had no choice but to sell him as they'd be sick paying his wages to warm the bench. It's just the same as Moro last season. The bottom line is playing for England was more important to Owen than playing for Liverpool and thats why he's signed for a club he knows is going nowhere.

I think we might be clutching at straws a bit here. Can you see Traore even starting for Chelsea reserves? Kewel, seems to lack the passion and determination needed and thats when he's fully fit.

Despite Istambul we are well behind the pack at the moment in terms of marketing, new signings and a new stadium. Things will only get worse when Arsenal and Chelski have 60,000+ grounds. Its time to look at who's responsible for these fundamental failures and take action as soon as possible.

Let's give Rafa the support to build on last year's remarkable season.Surely we cannot have the same horrific injury list and the additional of Zenden and Sissoko should have a major boost.
A fully fit Cisse is something we have not yet seen so looking forward to that - not sure about Moro though .....
Who needs an over priced european player with no premiership experience anyway - don't panic buy Rafa we need to build for the future - the loss of Gonzales will probably be more of a set back.
Up the mighty reds !!!!!!!

I think rafa is not spending much cos the future. Look at the younrsters he has bought. That tells me that he is looking at building something from them. As for now he is looking at players for 1-2 seasons like stelios, nobby. By which time the youngsters would be hopefully up to epl standards.

I don't think anyone can be blamed over Owen, even if Parry does seem a bit at sea over other negotiations. It wasn't Parry's fault that Owen stalled over his contract renewal before baling out at the last minute so that we were forced to sell him for loose change.

Maybe we didn't stick our tongues quite far enough up his arse when he put hmself back on the market, but that isn't Parry's fault either.

When he signed for Newcastle he said "I wanted to play for a club who really wanted me". Oh yeah? I don't remember the self-serving little git being too concerned about how much we really wanted him when he buggered off to Madrid.

I couldn't agree more.Owen got what he deserved and he's ended up playing for a MAD MAN in charge of a team who will be lucky to finnish in the top half.

i dun think we can blame anyone but Owen himself. He practically screwed the entire transfer scene for rafa. All transfers hinged on him coming to anfield. Since it didn't happen all else went down the wire. Golum got andy van d meyde for peanuts but we got monkies fr Owen

Owen's decision to leave has now backfired big time. He left because he 'wanted to win things'

Not only did he miss out on lifting the European cup but now he has no chance of winning anything for the next 4 years. He must be gutted!

At 1/9/05 9:54 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

you know as much as what i think you all are saying about owen! i do think that if he had of come back it would have cloes the gap between us and the blue team becos the thing that we need most is a ,ore then 20 goal a season forward, which iam not sure we have ! half of me didnt want him back but the other half did cos i know that he can score goals!

At 1/9/05 10:02 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

St Michael has moved on so let's forget the issue - his desire to win things has backfired so all I can say is good luck mate and do the business for England cause that is the only trophy you will be competing for !!!!!!!!!
As for the front line lets give Cisse a chance - let's face it Chelski are not exactly prolific at the front so if Stevie G and Alonso can score a few then we will be moving in the right direction ........

There's a lot I like about Cisse, but I don;t think I quire share his sense of humour. He has to learn that if he gets into a scoring position and ten blazes 20 feet over the bar, that's not a reason to turn round with a stupid grin on your face. It's not funny!!

Our strikers really need to score, not just to maintain our league position and CL run, but so that we don't get rooked by selling teams if we need new strikers in January.

Well lads, when it comes down to it we have the two most important things,Rafa and the best supporters in the world. We'll do better this season than a lot of people think.

Agreed!

Not only will we do well, we have to. We cant keep underachieving. Rafa hasn't been able to get this squad to gether he wanted, that will affect us. Looking at all the news sites we were linked with every defender and his dog. But we signed no one. Whats going on!! We needed a right-midfielder we got no-one when there were several players available. Parry and the Board need to stump up major money even out of their own pockets to make sure we have the players he wanted in January. I dont want to see a couple of 3-4 million pound buys. We need class and you pay for class. I.e Owen to Newcastle for 17mil.

PARRY OUT!
MOORS OUT!
THERE'S ONLY ONE STEVE MORGAN!!!

I know what you mean about Cisse Scarlet but I'm sure there is a lot more to come. There is no way that he could have scored so many goals in the French league if he isn't better than his form for us, so far, has suggested.
I also think once Moro scores a few and gets more confidence we will see why his is referred to as world class.

I still see it difficult for our strikers, especially Mori. I'm sure they will score goals, but not as many as they could. We still dont create chances like other top teams in the country. We still lack width, which has been a major problem for at least 3 years if not longer. Mori will score if the ball is crossed to him.

Being fans we ought to get behind Rafa & his players. Its hard but its made easier now the window has closed.
Positive take: we're better off contrast to last year & lets hope we don't pick up our injuries any time soon.
Anyway my main dis-contention is that fans just puts too much pressure on the team, all it takes is a few games that we chose to use the squad instead of 1st teamers that bear some un-inspiring games and we hear some fans already wanting Rafa's head.
Just look at the Barcodes, them fans despite knowing they are MO 3rd choice kept it up and actually made him welcomed heck even Chelski's fans don't criticise their team when they resort to long balls just as long as them results matter, everything else don't. Its been well documented that GH wilted under us fans as we got behind critics that finally nail it for him. So lets not forget we are the ones who made GH complacent & short-sighted with those High profile error signing of Diouf & Diao while the sensible choice wud probably be to procrastinate and buy a lamp iso a table. So lets just rally behind the team come what May and put our money where our mouth is n show we're trully the best supporters in the World supporting the Best Club in the world.
