Nando: We have yet to see the real Morientes

Nando was relieved to score an excellent goal to bring his drought to an end:

"I needed a goal like that," he told skysports.com. "I am happy with how the game went but now I need to get a run of five consecutive goals to get my sharpness in the area back.
"I can't understand my bad fortune in The Premiership; what with injuries and the goal drought people have not seen the real Morientes yet - it has hurt me.

"But Benitez has always given me his total confidence and I want to pay that back with goals.

"I am a striker and I was bought by Liverpool to score goals.

"I don't have a set target, but I want to get at least 12 or 15 goals in all competitions."

Morientes, like most people, is at a loss to explain the difference between our European and Premiership performances:

"The difference between Liverpool in Europe and domestically is abysmal," he continued.

"I don't know what causes it, but in The Premiership we are playing very nervously and have problems scoring goals."

From his time in La Liga Nando knows that Rafa is a great manager and believes people have no right to question him:

"People should not question Benitez, he is one of the best coaches in the world and I would ask for people to have a little patience with him," he continued.

"I am convinced that results will come and he will achieve his objectives.

"Our aim is to take things game by game, things are going well in Europe but the next game against Real Betis will not be easy."

He is undoubted quality and he needs a run. I not so convinced at this 'he cant play in the premiership' tag because he has adopted before (French league), why not again. A bit of work in the gym maybe, create better upper body strength. Remember Saint Mike kept on losing balls at the start when he first started because if they caught him he could be easily knocked off the ball. Give the guy a chance. Injury and rotation has limited him and has stopped him form getting a run. As for the rumours about the Real Betis part exchange, I dont think it will happen, if anyone will go it will be Ciise as he only seems to have pace and power, hardly any accuracy or placement. When have you seen a curler like alonso, owen or gerrard come from his boots. He cant place his shots. power or nothing

At his age, Nando has a few good years left in him. The man is class, and you know what they say about form and class. It would be ridiculous to let him go now, it should take more than a few newspaper hacks to hound good players out of Liverpool cos that's what seems to be flavor of the day today.
