Simao set to leave Benfica

The Benfica president, Luis Filipe Vieira, has hinted that Simao may be leaving the Portuguese club provided they receive a decent offer.
Vieira told Record: "Some day, Benfica will have to say farewell to Simao.
"We have a gentleman's agreement."
Liverpool nearly signed Simao on transfer deadline day after agreeing a fee of £ 10 million although the deal was cancelled after news leaked out and the Benfica fans protested.
Benfica bought Simao for Barca in 2001 for £ 8 million and they are unlikely to sell him for less than £ 12 million.
Rick Parry has repeatedly confirmed our interest in the player and there is no doubt Rafa will be doing everything he can in the transfer window to buy a quality right winger.

I think some negotiating will need to be done. I cannot see Rafa spending more than £ 10 million on one player, unless they are in Xabi Alonso's class.

why pay £2 million extra for someone who we had agreed to sign for £10 million not 3 months ago?!

They will have to pay more as Benfica fans went TOTALLY crazy when they realised that he was about to be sold for £10M. Remember, Sabrosa is to Benfica fans what Gerrard is to Liverpool fans!

I don't see the sense of paying more than £10M either, especially as he'll be cup tied for the Champions League. Simao is an exceptional player, but Benitez's funds won't stretch if he's also on the look out for a centre back (Agger-£5M) and perhaps a left back
(Alves-£3.5M)
