How are our new signings performing? (update)

It's been six weeks since the last assessment of our signings which can be accessed from this link:

Now is the time to have another look at how Rafa's recent purchases are fairing:

Bolo Zenden

Bolo now appears to be battling strongly to get a first team place. He recently scored an important goal against West Ham and looks to have a couple of yards more pace than when he joined. Rafa has limited him to sub appearances recently although he has been making a decent impact especially considering the lack of playing time.

Pep Reina

Pep is still looking dodgy from crosses. However in recent weeks our defence have been limiting the chances conceded and he has shown good concentration to come up with some important saves despite being inactive for long stretches of games.

Momo Sissoko

Momo is still doing well for a youngster in a foreign country although he has gone slightly off the boil. Rafa has played him on the right of midfield and also in a more attacking midfield role. He definitely does not yet have good enough passing skills to be employed in these positions. Maybe he can learn off Xabi and improve in the future. In the meantime he should stick to defensive midfield, a position he appears to be naturally suited to.

Peter Crouch

Unfortunately Peter Crouch still has yet to score his first goal and his confidence is being affected. He is no longer the first choice for Rafa now Morientes has regained his match fitness. When Crouch plays he does contribute to the team, and holds the ball up well, however he doesn't look as dangerous as you would expect from a top Premiership striker.

I think pep has made a positive start. He is very aggressive and very confident. Comes off his line very quickly when he commits which often puts strikers/wingers off

I agree about pep and he's always technical in the right place when coming out set pieces or otherwise. Crouch has been unlucky although they say a player makes his own luck, however hes been tactically brilliant which is what benitez means when he says hes played well and hes a good player and those who criticise him dont understand football.
