Diao loaned to Pompey & Solano snub

Salif Diao has joined Portsmouth on loan with a view to a permanent transfer. Since his £5 million transfer in 2002 it has been clear that Diao did not have the ability to make it at Liverpool. Hopefully he can do what is required to secure a permanent move to Portsmouth.
After the Simao deal broke down last night we made a last minute attempt to capture Solano. Unfortunately this was not successful as Aston Villa wanted a player in exchange to cover for his loss.

As a Liverpool supporter waking up to the news that we´ve managed to sign absolutely nobody of note before the tranfer deadline, I must admit to being more than a bit disheartened. Frankly, I´m gutted. We've busily discarded fringe players, quite rightly, but managed only to bring in a bunch of promising teenagers towards the end of summer. What went wrong? Do we not have the money or is the club guilty of dragging it's feet in the transfer market? I'd like some answers.

I think the blame lies away from RB. I imagine the manager came up with a list of players he wanted to sign and then gave it to Mr Parry et al to sort out the financial side of things. Bet Rafa's as gutted as any of us that he didn't get the players he needs.
