Pongolle: "Why can't we be champions?"

Flo has shown the type of confidence produced from last season's success:

"I feel we will do well this season in the Premiership. I think we have a strong squad with a good mentality. I think honestly we are quietly confident about the Premiership this season and why can't we be champions come the end of the season?"

He has also spoken about his role this season after making a quick recovery from a cruciate injury:

"It's great for me to be back and playing again. Just to be back on the pitch again after seven months out makes me very happy. "I am getting my fitness back gradually and maybe in a couple of weeks I will be back to my best. It was nice that I was able to come back for the Super Cup Final and win another trophy."
"My best position is a central striker," he said. "I can also play just off the striker and on the right hand side. The only problem with me playing on the right is I haven't got the best physical presence or stamina at the moment as I have just returned from injury. I will play on the right if the manager asks me to play there. "It is not about what is best for me though, it's all about the team and that is the most important thing."

Pongolle's attitude is great for a youngster and I am hopeful that he can make the right wing slot his own.

Trying flo right mid could be a great idea, hes got pace and if he can deliver crosses, we could have saved 10 - 12 mil on simao!

I agree with the above comment, if he can prove strong enough and get balls onto nando and crouchs heads, then he could be the answer.(Untill January at least.)

A decent RW and CB would have put us on the same level with Arsenal And ManU, but now it's the like of Newcastle and everton that's catching up on us.Just imagine, had we signed the like of joaquin and mexes,i can see us finishing above arsenal and manU.

Its nice that flo is showing a bit of optimism. The lack of signings could give some of the youngsters a chance to shine through, after all thats where caradonna, stevie and mickey came from and they've been our best players in recent years. I know Owen stood out because he had already broke every goal scoring record in the book at youth level, but remember it took Jamie (and even stevie to a lesser extent) a while before showing what pure class they are

Parry said "It's never ideal trying to do business on the last day because things can go wrong and then there's no room to manoeuvre. Clearly, they waited on the owen deal before deciding which target to sign. Why?in case the $10 million bid for owen was accepted.
The whole time rafa hav been saying that RW and CB was a priority,so why wait till the last minute.

SO, WHO TO BLAME FOR OUR FAILURE TO SIGN A RW AND CB :

1.SUPER SELFISH MICHAEL OWEN.
2.PATHETIC ENGLISH MEDIA.
3.IDIOTIC FORMER PLAYERS(LEGENDS) AND MANAGERS,PUNDITS,AND STEVEN GERRARD.
FOR PUTTING ALL THE PRESSURE ON THE CLUB AND MANAGER TO RESIGN MICHAEL OWEN DESPITE OF THE PLAN MADE PRIOR TO OWEN'S ISSUE.
AND
4.RAFA BENITEZ WHO DO NOT HAVE
THE GUT TO SAY OUT LOUD THAT MICHAEL OWEN, OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT HE'S ENGLISH AND A LOCAL LAD, IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY FOR THE CHAMPION OF EUROPE.

I can see you're quite upset about Mickey not coming back to anfield (as am I by the way)! but I find it impossible to blame someone for wanting to play football every week. He said he wants to come back to Liverpool. Newcastle shaft us by bidding £17m for him (too much). Liverpool refused to be taken for ransom by Real (a wise decision). Mickey had a choice, go to Newcastle and be a crowd favorite or sit on the bench at Real for a season. He was stuck and so chose to go and play some football in the North East.

Owen was overpriced but the boy can play football you've got to give him that. At least now he might be on form for England next summer when Stevie, Jamie and those other blokes show the rest of the world how to play football!
