Rafa's Talent Production Line

Rafa has stated that all of the youngsters he has purchased this summer will have a chance to progress into the 1st team. Six of the Continent's most talented young players have arrived at Liverpool this summer. Four of them, Antonio Barragan, Jack Hobbs, Godwin Antwi & Miki Roque are defenders. The Austrian young player of the year, Besian Idrizaj, is an attacking midfielder and Ramon Calliste a, Man United reject, is a striker. Here is what Rafa had to say:

"Maybe they will have similar possibilities. "It depends on injuries and themselves. If they play really well then it will be difficult for me to ignore them. "From what I have seen so far they have done well and worked hard. We have a lot of young players in the reserve team now and it is a little bit light on experience."

Rafa's plan is to have a reserve team full of potential future stars. Hopefully this team will also feature a few graduates from the academy.

"What we are trying to do is prepare a new team that will be packed with quality players and in time we hope these players will be ready for the first team."

This is the type of system that has been successfully employed by Arsene Wenger. The Arsenal squad contains several players who were imported at a young age and are now holding their own in the Premiership.

Together with quality coaching and the top notch facilities at Melwood Rafa is building the foundations for long term success. Hopefully the Rafalution will return us to the glory days of the 70's and 80's.

This goes back to Paisley's days when he bought the likes of Hansen and Nichol when they were about 20. He put them in the reserves for a year or two to learn the LFC system, and then continuously replaced first team players when they approached their 30's, like McDermott, David johnson, etc.

This way, the team system will continue to evolve, and there would be no need for a major revolution. It was never LFC style to buy a player in his late 20's and dump him straight in the team.

Rafa is going back to the real LFC style of doing things. I also hope local talent will get the oppertunity to be next Gerrard or Carragher. Keep it up Rafa.

Lets be clear here, the past is the past, how things were done and achieved was completely different to what the modern day game involves. Rafa is looking to move the club forward with a different style, approach and methods, not as a previous post says "Rafa is going back to the real LFC style of doing thing". This is not the way forward.

What has become apparent is that rather than go out and pay millions for promising talent (aka GH), Rafa is picking up the same kind of talent for nothing! So we have nothing to lose but plenty to gain, and without adding pressure to the lads coming in and the manager. This is comendable in itself and is similar to Wenger's approach at Arsenal.

The unfortunate side is that most are foriegn, with few exceptions, but I blame the greed and over-inflated valuations of our league clubs for this, though I am not against foriegn players. I do hope we see more english and local talent coming through as we saw under Stevie Heighway (Fowler, McManaman, Carragher, Gerrard, Owen). We need these type of players as much as the foriegn lads.

Let the good times begin!

This really is the way forward for the club, the new scouting network allows us to bring in the talent at the right age and groom them along with the youngsters at the club.

Something that GH never appreciated. Useless squad players that we now have to loan out cause no one wants, needn't have been bought in the first place.

Thompson was easily good enough to stay at the club, as was Wright. These players were coming through the youth system nicely and not all of them will become Gerrards or Fowlers but we need them for squad depth.

In this repect GH put us about 3 years behind and we are just catching up with the likes of Warnock, Welsh, Potter etc.
