Spurs V Reds: The Big Pre-Match Preview

The game at Tottenham will certainly be our biggest test of the season so far. They have started the season well and are playing with confidence. Spurs were more than matching Chelsea last week until the Mido sending off. If we are to win we will need to be at our best. Spurs are likely to employ a 4-4-2 with Defoe partnering Keane or their new signing Rasiak up front. They will have a midfield including Davids, Carrick, Reid and perhaps a debutante in Jenas. Ledley king may return in central defence to partner Dawson with Stephen Kelly on the right and another debutante, the South Korean, Lee Young Pyo on the left.

Hopefully Rafa will match their formation with an attacking 4-4-2. I think the best way to win the game would be in midfield. Ideally we can play Sissoko and Alonso in the centre with Gerrard on the right to terrorise their new left back. Gerrard would also be able to keep Andy Reid quiet, as he is a dangerous outlet for Spurs. I would prefer Riise to Zenden on the left given the goal threat he will offer.

Due to the absence of Morientes, Cisse is likely partner Crouch up front. This on paper is a very dangerous partnership with the key ingredients of height and pace. Either Alonso can deliver the ball to Crouch to knock it down or Gerrard and Riise can advance in wide areas to cross the ball. Alternatively Cisse can take up positions wide on the right and Gerrard and Riise can bomb forward into the box from midfield.
In my opinion the most exciting aspect of this game will be the midfield confrontation. Hopefully Rafa will select Sissoko to do battle with Davids. The potential is there for fireworks with these two aggressive characters. It will also give us a better idea of exactly how good Sissoko is at the moment.

Tottenham have a solid defence and will be difficult to break down. However playing at home they are bound to attack. This will allow to use the pace and counter attacking skills of Riise, Gerrard & Cisse. We will need to be wary of Defoe. His ability to turn quickly will certainly cause Hyypia problems should any one on one situations develop.
We will certainly need to improve on our previous performances this season to get a positive result.

WithWolves Prediction:
I believe the game will end in a 1-1 draw with Crouch netting his first goal for us.

Please post your comments and predictions on the game.

As a Spurs fan I thought it was a nicely thought out piece. Shame about the idiots from both Spurs and Liverpool who obviously don't have the wit to put a useful comment across.

I thought it was a well presented and thought out arguement that you put forward in your big match preview. I liked the badges of the two teams at the top, but I do think that a lot of what you said your midfield is going to do to us at The Lane is wishful thinking on your part. Liverpool are going to have major problems on Saturday.

Both fans must admit that this is the game of the day bewteen two very talented outfits.

We spent the same on Jenas as Liverpool did on Crouch. Time will tell who the waste of money is (if anyone). I'm confident that Ledley can cope with the giant more than adequately. I think we possess a superior attacking threat at this time.

Surprised no one seems to mention the possible battle between Edgar and Stevie G which could be pivotal to the match.

2-1 Spurs, but a draw wouldn't surprise me. If it's anything like the game at Anfield, then it should be a pearl.

Dan Mac, I'm sure Lee will be a good addition for you. It will be interesting to see how he copes on Saturday. However I don't think Rafa will play Gerrard on the right but that is what I would do.

THINK SPURS WILL WIN BY THE ODD GOAL. WE ARE A LOT STRONGER THAN THE LAST TIME THE TEAMS MET. WHILE LIVERPOOL HAVE GONE BACKWARDS WITH THE POOR SIGHNING OF CROUCH AND RELEASING BAROS

I'd say they're pretty evenly matched with a few weaknesses on both sides. Whichever team shows the most desire will take the points. It's got score draw written all over it.

All clubs waste money in the transfer market. Crouch was class for Southampton last season and deserves to be given a chance to succeed for us.

We have the best central midfield in the Premiership. Alonso & Gerrard are two world class players.

liverpool have gone backwards, although they did brilliantly to win the european cup last year it was a fluke. i mean 3-0 down to a far superior team and to go on to win, now thats fairytale stuff. chelsea will avenge that in the group stages this year. spurs to win 2-1 with liverpool coming back late in the second half and spurs putting needless pressure on themselves. Reckon that with wolves is spot on with his prediction 1-1.

I have a feeling that it will come down to the strikers and if Cisse is fit and plays through the middle, with the passion he has shown against Moscow and For France Spurs could have problems.

Likewise Carra and Sami will have their work cut out keeping Defoe quiet. I reckon that Spurs are gonna be a force to be reckoned with in the coming season(s) and I really think I is good that they are up there with mostly british players.

Both these teams are on the up and I expect them to be up in 4th/5th at the end of the season.

Alonso & Gerrard vs Edna Davids & Jermaine Penis.

One one duo gonna win there.

Yeah yeah, take your car stereos out etc.

Travelling scousers will be more concerned about being victims of gay rape than having an interest in your car stereo (yawn)

Spurs have improved their squad and I can confidently predict that they will not finish their customary 9th / 10th / 11th this year.

They will either finish 8th /9th /10th.

Mid-table cannon fodder who make up the numbers.

You exist to get 3 or 4 unexpected results each season.

Lets hope you're not lucky tomorrow.

If we're gonna finish 9th, 10th, 11th position as you predicted, that doesn't bode well for your team since they are far inferior in every department from ours, with the exception of Gerrard. Without Gerrard you're a mediocre team at best.

Unbelievable amount of horseshit you lot all talk, I don't think any of you know what football is.... This is likely to be a draw because both teams are building and not a "force" as yet both are likely to get into europe and both are not likel;y to win anything this year. Credit where it is due to LFC for being champions of europe as that shows guts and on the other hand it's nice to see some of the best young english talent being "grown-on" at spurs.

What's football then - to the only one on this website who doesn't talk horseshit!

I can only assume you haven't been reading the comments above?

Football is a game of two halves, obvious really.

The "we're so great so you must be crap mentality" is so very old and uses no mental strength to get it's point over.
