Youngster Confident of Taking Chance

It is almost inevitable that young American defender Zak Whitbread will get his chance this season. He featured regularly in pre-season and the lack of defensive cover should contribute to him being given his opportunity before reinforcements, hopefully, arrive in January.

"I mean it is a long season and the manager has said everyone will be involved at some stage. I can only take that as a positive thing but Josemi can play at centre half as well and did well against Sofia in the Champions League. I can only keep playing well and training hard and hopefully get a chance.
"I've enjoyed every minute of every game I've played for the first team. I don't think I've done too bad but I'm still learning and there is a lot more to come from me.
"The manager has given all of the young lads a real confidence boost. There were times a couple of years ago when I was uncertain about my future. As soon as the new manager came in all the young lads felt there was a real opportunity to impress and when you got the chance you had to take it."

It would be fantastic if a youngster like Whitbread can come through this season and perhaps even prevent the need for more defenders to be signed.

don't you think it's a bit stupid to use the words WithWolves for a Liverpool blog?

I think Rafa has done well to bring on 2 maybe 3 young players who are now on the fringe of the first team. For too long we have allowed are great young talents to slip away. Stephen Wright and David Borrows are two who immediately come to mind. Our best players over the past 5 years have all been home grown and I’m sure all the youngsters at the club can now see a clear path to the first team from the likes of Warnock, Potter and Whitbread.

I agree with 2:11 PM...

I have only recently discovered this site and it ia a breath of fresh air, only downside being the childish abuse in the Spurs match pieces.! Is it alway like that in the build up to a match??

Anyways, Whitbread looks ready to me but think we can bring in another quality player in Jan...for the rest of this season and into next.
