Makelele wouldn't swap Gerrard for Essien

In a show of resentment following missing out on Stevie G, Claude Makelele has foolishly stated that Essien will become the better player. He had this to say to the News of The World:

"Michael is one of the best midfielders in the world already and with us he will become the best.
"He's already got experience, technically he's very strong and he's an all-round player because he can attack just as well as he defends.
"Everybody knows about the interest in Gerrard but we wouldn't swap Michael for anyone.
"We still haven't even seen the best from him — he is only 22 but has the ease of a player who is 30.
"He has such an engine on him as well. Better than anybody I've seen. He's going to be huge at Chelsea, he's going to be a monster."

"We all feel confident of winning any game with Michael alongside us.
"As far as tactics and experience goes, he still has room to progress but, other than that, he is the complete player.
"He has all the qualities of a defensive midfielder but he can also attack. He is so powerful and some teams can't handle that".

We all know that Stevie G is the complete player who is still a few years off his peak. His allround game is such that it's difficult to imagine how a player could be better than him.

I love how you idolise your captain, who until the suits made him the best paid player in the Premiership would've walked out on you. Is that buying success?

Oh yes....I remember you lot burning your replica shirts and I will never forget it. And you say Chelsea have plastic fans!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It's nice to hear a Chealsea player to say such thing, meaning they really envy us.

you remember are lot burning shirts do you ? that would be 1 fan outside anfield not all of us and who's to say the lad was'nt paid to do it by a certain newspaper or tv station, its even funnier that chelsea think gerrard isnt that good anymore coz he turned them down (twice), essien better than gerrard ? behave you cockney gobshites, makelele is talking thru his arse, when chelsea played liverpool everytime last season at the end of the game all the chelsea players and the backroom staff could'nt shake his hand quick enough sucking up to him, but now their not as fast to shake it now, that would'nt be coz he's not signing for you would it ?

The only reason to have wanted Gerrard was because he was English, but at £8m less, younger, more powerful, less likely to go missing, Essien is the way to go.

What Stevie-Me has shown in his handling of himself over HIS wish to leave Liverpool is that he is completely untrustworthy as a person. Surely no other club would consider him for his duplicity. He is condemned to stay at Liverpool and, what's more, Liverpool are condemned to him - drama queen, hollywood balls, desire to leave every season and all.

In the end he only stayed for the biggest pay-rise Anfield has ever seen. He stayed for the money. Liverpool tried to cash-in by ripping Chelsea for as much as they could get and in the end they got no money AND had to pay Gerrard a payscale-busting amount.

Good luck being able to afford anyone else with what little money you have left, and good luck fending off the jealous claims of his team-mates for parity or comparability at the end of the season. Gerrard has sewn the seed of discontent and you're going to have to cope with that.

you would'nt be saying non of that if he'd have signed for chelsea, so its just sour grapes, very bitter indeed, gerrard's a class player FACT. the only reason you wanted gerrard were'nt because he was english, thats just bollocks and you know it its because hes one of the best in the world, ask any manager in world football and they will tell you the same so go and suck peter kenyons cock coz you have no class. FACT.

essien is 20% less of a player than gerrard. gerrard is a better attacker and defender. and the footballing world knows it. moaningho wanted gerrard and wouldn't pay the same for essien. even with the money he is allowed to play with, he just said, 'no. we aren't paying that for essien'. essien is a decent player, don't get me wrong, but he isn't gerrard.

What you're missing in your remedial-English post is that if he had the courage of his convictions and moved when he rationally decided to, he wouldn't have been duplicitous and therefore untrustworthy. Under those circumstances, of course I'd have wanted Gerrard. Now is different. Now, with the way he screwed Liverpool by declaring he wanted better and then stayed on condition they gave him £120k\week, no-one at Chelsea would have him if he were free. That is not the mark of a captain or a team player. That's why he's Stevie-Me and why you'll never get rid of the chump, even when he's past it.

You have to understand too that if we'd bought him he'd have to be stripped down and rebuilt. Anyone can see the ability he has, but he has the brains of a wet kipper. In his current form he's a matchwinner and a liability all in the same confused lump, which is why he'll never do anything with you and you'll never get anywhere with him. Everyone was surprised by the CL win but it's unsurprising that the side that managed it was ripped to pieces in the close-season, so that now it's not one thing nor another. Both the last two years have produced anomalous CL winners. you can hamg onto the memory as long as you like but Liverpool and Gerrard won't get another, nor anything in league terms either.

In comparison, with Essien, we have a younger, cleverer, more adaptable, more compatible player that fills the hole in the team that existed on the right last season. Not a superstar player with a superstar metality, but a winner - a winner of league titles at that, which is something Liverpool used to know the value of and have now forgotten absolutely.

In years gone by Liverpool winning a cup, of any stature, would not have been acceptable if the league was lost by 30 points and then 37 in successive seasons. Shankly knew that, Paisley knew that, Fagan knew that and Dalglish knew that. An entire generation has not been alive to know that and two generations have not been alive to see it.

All of Liverpool should be ashamed about that and now you stand in 13th place with less than a third of the points of the top club after nearly a quarter of the season, having lost at home by the heaviest amount since the 60s, having had the worst start ever to the PL season, having never lost to Chelsea by so much since 1907, having never had so few local players in the team. Houllier and Benitez have succeeded in dismantling everything that was ever great about Liverpool and replaced it with nothing, NOTHING except a lamp-post who can't score and a REAL list of mercenaries who don't care. The crowd sing the songs of yore as if it's the same thing in front of them, so locked in the past that they can't see that it isn't. The club is a shambles and Gerrard has locked himself into it to ensure it remains so.

In the words of Keith Burkinshaw "There used to be a football club over there". Good luck with it, because I used to love the old Liverpool - the real Liverpool - not this pale passionless, directionless facsimile. With the blinkered view you have it may be that relegation is the only thing that'll knock you all out of this complacency and satisfaction with history when it's having a future that really keeps a club great and safeguards the memory of its past.

Sincere best wishes.

oh and chelsea hav'nt got no mercenaries have they ? chelskum would be were leeds are if it was'nt for abramabitch, essien's shit and duff kisses his badge and he did'nt even want to sign for chelsea he was waiting for man utd to sign him, drogba should be a referee because he wants to book everyone who tackles him, chelsea has more mercenaries than anyone, starting with your shithouse manager and peter fuckface kenyon the biggest mercenarie of them all.

Mercenaries? No, I don't think so now. Veron is off-loaded, so that's about it. The junior squad has been released almost to a man if they weren't up to the standard. Anyone who doesn't pull their weight is dealt with by JT and JM. The way Mourinho dealt with Carvalho, his favourite son from Porto, has shown everyone that it's "my way or the highway". That was said at the start and is never so true as now.

Players coming to Chelsea are selected for being winners and for having the personal drive not to take the pee like Bogarde in the past, who himself was left to rot and can't ever play anywhere else again. There's nowhere to hide at Chelsea, so even if a bad call is made, like with Kezman, they don't stop working their arses off for the team right to the bitter end - even if they'll never be good enough with our ever-rising bar.

I'm telling you this, but I'm wasting my breath. Two generations have passed since a championship winning side and you don't know what it means any more. Alonso today said you have to potter along with what you've got until the transfer window. How many more never-will-be players will you have to buy with the pittance left over by the crippling Gerrard deal you're condemned to?

History means "there used to be a football club over there" - but there isn't one now. The era ended decades ago - ancient history down their with all the other dinosaurs.
