Reds after South African midfielder

According to Skysports.com we are after versatile, South African midfielder Steven Pienaar. The Ajax midfielder has come through the club's youth system. His contract is in its final year and he will be able to negotiate with other clubs in January with a view to a summer free transfer. However as we are desperate for a right midfielder we may take advantage of his decreasing price and make a bid in January. Nothing may materialise though as Ajax are pulling out all of the stops to ensure one of their prized assets signs a new deal:
"It is our intention to attach him longer to our team," said Ajax technical director Martin van Geel.
"With this offer we show our confidence, not just personally but financially."
"At this moment the player has not made up his mind on any decision,"Pienaar's agent, Rob Moore, told skysports.com.
"We have a meeting with Ajax later this month and after that we should know what is happening."
