Gerrard not ready to concede title

Stevie Gerrard says we should not be too downhearted after the defeat to Chelsea, a team who he recognises are a great side. He instead has chosen to focus on the positives:

"We're a long way behind but I'm not going to concede any title in October," "I'm the captain of the club and it's my job to drive the lads on. I don't think there's a massive gap between the teams and I don't think the gap is 4-1.
"We played really well and the scoreline does not give a true reflection of the game."
"We were disappointed to come in 2-1 down. We were still in it but we were punished twice when we were chasing the game," he added.
"Every team in Europe has weaknesses but they have very few and they are hard to find.
"They don't leave much space and they are a great side."

Although iam hugely disappointed by the result against Chelsea, I believe we should look at building a team first to challenge the top 3 before we can start thinking about the title. WE have to accept the fact that we are far behind Chelsea, Arsenal and Man U. League position is a big worry bcz this year other teams have improved and we are already far behind the rest. The priority now is to start wining games otherwise fourth position will prove very difficult coming May. Today's result showed that a significant improvement and may be change of tactics and early shopping in January is needed to save our season.

As a club Liverpool have an amazing history. They need however to be playing consistently at a very much higher level than they have achieved for quite a few years if they want a present that even sees them as good. The one off Champions League achievement was brilliant - but like Wimbledon winning the FA Cup demonstrated a great cup run not an accomplished side who were going somewhere.

The first step in improvement in business is to recognise your weaknesses. the talk generated from Anfield players and management between the two matches suggest that this has not been achieved. Fans becoming arrogant on the basis of success many years ago is understandable BUT a club thinking like this is never going to be a recipe for success again
